Get the spring look: Dos and Don’ts

I’m so happy it’s spring. You know what that means? Bright colors, new hair, flowers. Those who fell into the winter and fall trance of matte dark lipsticks, dark colored eyeshadow and pale skin — fear no more, it’s time to get bold.

Please do:

  • Get out that bold red lipstick. Might as well pull out your pinks and corals  too. Sephora’s liquid lipstick has some of the brightest spring colors around.
  • Shop spring lines. Forever 21 and Kendall and Kylie’s line are affordable and bring out the latest and most stylish spring trends.
  • Try a new hair color. If you’re feeling bold enough, go blonde, pink, or even try grey like me!
  • Paint your nails. Use yellows, pastel pinks, whites, greys and coffee colored polishes. These are the most popular colors this spring.
  • Use bright colored eyeshadow. I’m not the only one who’s been not using certain colors on my palette. This spring is the perfect time to experiment with some brighter colors. Blue and gold have been popular bright colors, try them out. You’ll be shocked!
  • Moisturize. The weather’s getting warmer, make sure you have a good face lotion. Also, oil serums have been trending. I use Korres Rose Brightening oil serum to even and brighten my skin. I just mix it with my foundation and my face feels hydrated.
  • Hike, go for a walk. It’s the perfect weather to do so. Breathe in the freshest air of spring, it’s good for you!

Please Don’t:

  • Over do makeup. Yes, bright colors are in this spring, but if you use a bold lip color and eyeshadow and do heavy highlighter, that’s not as in. Try using a bold lip and light eye makeup or a bold eye and a nude rosey or mauve colored lipstick.
  • Spend all your time inside. Watch the flowers bloom, take a nap under the trees, make flower tattoos. Pinterest has some great spring activites and crafts, I’ll let you google “how to make flower tattoos” yourself, they’re sweet.

How you know you’re actually a hipster!¬†

So I recently was called hipster. Okay cool, not mad. I asked what makes me a hipster and they were stumped. “Just the way you are! How you dress and all your hobbies!” Well, I looked up the actual word hipster and it simply is a person who is stylish and trendy in an unconventional way. It originated in the early 1940s describing jazz musicians or people who were jazz listeners. Of course, we have evolved ourselves over the years and hipsters are not all exactly people who sit in jazz clubs with a full suit and top hat every day. Just people who enjoy underground, independent music and style. If this is you, embrace it!

If you’re a hipster:

You have a unique taste in music, not to mention, a record player and maybe a collection of vinyls

You may have one of these nice record players in your house, along with a collection of vinyls you would die for. Some of my favorite vinyls are Honeymoon by Lana del Rey, Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd, a couple Van Morrisons, and Abbey Road by the Beatles. I have plenty more and I always find myself ordering more and more. Oh! Not to mention a nice, versatile tapestry!

You find yourself at coffee shops more than usual drinking teas and coffees most people have never heard of  At your local Starbucks or Teavana, you know the baristas and many times they know your order. Be aware of how often you visit a coffee shop, if you’re there close to everyday, you may be a “hipster.”

You prefer Apple products and are loyal to them even if Samsung has a breakthrough device.

No matter what, I will always have an Apple product. I just like the look and Apple was the namebrand of the first device I have ever had. It’s just sharp looking! Even if Samsung comes out with the best phone on the planet, I will keep my iPhone.

You get angry when people ask you if you’ve heard a song that came out 3 years ago that you listened to first yet they claim it just came out.
Try again late listeners! Glass Animals has been on my playlist for years now. Gooey did not come out in 2015. But okay. Those of you who can relate, feel betrayed, in a sense. When you listened to the newest underground tracks, it wasn’t cool, but now that it’s on the radio or in a movie trailer, people change their minds! It happens all the time, learn to live with it.

You blog.   If you know what this is, enough said.

Vintage-y stuff catches your eye  Along with your impressive, fancy Canon camera, you have a super cool old-fashioned polaroid camera, or atleast dream of having one. And anything else not of this era. Thrift shops and antique stores are always on your to-do list.

If any of these match your personality, you may be a hipster — and there’s nothing wrong with that!

Thanks for reading, stay golden.
